How to turn on YouTube Picture-in-Picture Mode on iPhone and iPad
Here’s some exciting news for all the YouTube addicts out there – you can now unlock the Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode on your iPhone! This means you can continue watching videos in a small window while you browse through other apps on your phone. It’s the perfect feature for all you multitaskers, and I’m here to show you how to make the most of it.
Enabling Picture-in-Picture Mode on the iOS YouTube App
To begin with, let’s look at how you can enable Picture-in-Picture mode on the YouTube app itself. Please note that this feature is currently available for YouTube Premium subscribers only as an experimental feature until October 31, 2021. So let’s get started before time runs out!
- Open your preferred browser, such as Safari or Google Chrome.
- Visit www.youtube.com/new and sign in to your account if you haven’t already.
- Please remember that you must have a YouTube Premium subscription.
- Scroll down and tap “Try It Out” under the “Picture-in-Picture” section.
- Now, open the YouTube app and play any video.
- To activate PiP mode, press the Home button or swipe up to navigate away from the app.
- The video will continue playing in a smaller window, allowing you to use other apps simultaneously.
Please note that this feature is not available in the YouTube app on iPad. Let’s move on to exploring another method for enjoying PiP mode.
Playing YouTube Picture-in-Picture in a Browser on iPhone
If you’re a YouTube Premium subscriber, you can also take advantage of Picture-in-Picture mode while using a browser. The best part is that this method works seamlessly on both iPhone and iPad. Follow these simple steps to get started:
- Open any browser and visit YouTube.com.
- Play any video.
- Tap the full-screen icon to play the video in full-screen mode.
- Please remember that PiP will not work if the video is not playing in full-screen mode.
- Tap the PiP icon at the top of the screen.
- Alternatively, you can simply navigate away from the browser while the video is playing.
Controlling YouTube PiP Window on iPhone
Once you’ve entered PiP mode, whether it’s through the YouTube app or a browser, you can control it in the following ways:
- Adjust the YouTube PiP window by double-tapping it.
- Access all the controls, including pause, rewind, and forward, by tapping once.
- To exit PiP mode on YouTube, tap the X icon at the top right of the PiP window.
Furthermore, if you drag the PiP window all the way to the right or left edge of your screen, you can make the YouTube video play in the background as audio. This allows you to control it from the Lock Screen or Control Center.
Do keep in mind that Picture-in-Picture videos will pause playing if you lock your phone. However, if you play a video in the background as audio, it will continue playing even if you lock your iPhone screen.
And there you have it! You now know how to unlock and enjoy YouTube Picture-in-Picture mode on your iOS device. Remember, this is currently an experimental feature available for a limited time to YouTube Premium users only. Keep an eye out for what comes next!
